Week 48 Review: Darker

From Goodreads:
E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe.

Their scorching, sensual affair ended in heartbreak and recrimination, but Christian Grey cannot get Anastasia Steele out of his mind, or his blood. Determined to win her back, he tries to suppress his darkest desires and his need for complete control, and to love Ana on her own terms.

But the horrors of his childhood still haunt him, and Ana's scheming boss, Jack Hyde, clearly wants her for himself. Can Christian's confidant and therapist, Dr. Flynn, help him face down his demons? Or will the possessiveness of Elena, his seducer, and the deranged devotion of Leila, his former submissive, drag Christian down into the past?

And if Christian does win Ana back, can a man so dark and damaged ever hope to keep her?

My Review:
What can I say about this book? That it's a guilty pleasure? It is. The original trilogy kinda made it's way into popular culture behind closed doors, but I don't think this trilogy is doing quite the same, hasn't reached the same popularity, especially since they aren't well-written stories. They're titillating, but not long-lasting, when you hear stories of book displays in used book stories made of only this series.

This book isn't the best out there, the writing isn't the best, we already know the basic strokes of the story. It's not horrible either. It's just kinda in the middle, you know? Plus there's that voice in your head that says if you're a good person, you won't enjoy this book. But society needs to loosen up!

The conflict in this series has a few prongs. There's Christian and Ana's relationship, trying to find that balance of who they are and what they need, in their personal and professional lives. There was his issues, her working and Jack, Elena, and yeah, seeing things from Christian's POV was great!

There were other things that were in this book that weren't in Fifty Shades Darker, because Ana wasn't there. I think the part I knew was coming, that I wanted to read, was the end, when his mom finds out about him and Elena. That was a great scene!

I did enjoy this book, and I can't wait for the final book, coming out after the final movie, which feels weird, but OK!
